In Železniki the ironworks were the dominant economic industry throughout the 14th to the end of the 19th century. Blacksmiths working in the forges made nails which were known far and wide – up to 1,000 were produced per day. A blast furnace, a unique technical monument, stands in the centre of Zelezniki and serves as evidence of its rich ironworking tradition.
After visiting a huge blast furnace you must see the museum next by. It’s nice to take a walk through the old part of the town beside the Selška Sora River, and, if you’re lucky with the weather, enjoy the sunshine!
